Asi que buscas ayuda y has llegado hasta aquí. Bienvenido al Nuevo sistema de foros Simple Machines Forum (SMF)! Supongo que has estado mirando en el foro buscando una página diciéndote que necesitas registrarte antes de poder leer algo, y seguramente te estarás preguntando: ¿Que Hago a continuación?
Bien, te puedo decir que algunos foros permiten a los invitados leer y postear mensajes, algunos foros solo permiten leer sus mensajes, mas no publicar en ellos y otros foros estan restringidos para aquellos usuarios que estan registrados. Te recomiendo te registres ya que hay ciertas opciones que como invitado no podras realizar, ademas de que tienes la ventaja de que en el foro todos podran identificarte con tu nombre de usuario. Debido a que SMF difiere un poco de los demas foros(phpBB, YabbSE), iniciaremos describiéndote las cuatro áreas que esperamos que normalmente sean comprendidas por tí:
- El Menú Principal
- Índice del foro
- El Índice de Mensajes
- The Topic
El Menú Principal
Suponiendo que has llegado aqui como invitado (o que aun no te has logueado en el foro), el menú principal (que aparece por todo el foro) debe normalmente contener 5 ó 6 botones (o enlaces de texto):
- Inicio, que te llevará automáticamente al índice del foro.
- Ayuda, que te trae automáticamente a esta guia.
- Buscar, que te permite buscar por todos los foros acerca de la palabra que estes tratando de encontrar.
- Calendario, que te llevará al calendario de fechas importantes del foro(si esta habilitado, claro :-)).
- Ingresar, que te permite identificarte en el foro, si es que estas actualmente registrado.
- Registrarse, que te permite registrarte si es que aun no lo has hecho ^^.
Una vez que te hayas registrado, el menu principal sera un poco diferente al mostrado anteriormente:
- Índice (igual).
- Ayuda (igual).
- Buscar (igual).
- Perfil, que te permitirá hacer cambios a tu perfil y ajustar sus configuraciones.
- Calendario (igual).
- Salir, que te permitira salir de tu cuenta de usuario del foro.
Los administradores del foro notaran la presencia del boton Administración.
Índice del foro
Mientras el índice del foro (página de inicio del foro) esta empacada cono todo tipo de información y enlaces, la interface básica (al menos en el tema predeterminado de SMF) normalmente luciria de la siguiente manera:
- El Nombre del Foro te enlazará directamente a la página de inicio del foro.
- Si la categoría es colapsable (indicado por una pequeño signo de mas "+"), dando click en el nombre de la categoria colapsable se mostrara o escondera la categoría en cuestion.
- El nombre de la sección te enlazará a el índice de mensajes para esa seccion del foro.
- La descripción de la sección muestra aquello que se habla en la sección, y puede incluir también enlaces a sub-secciones y/o especificar el/los moderador/es del foro.
- Los iconos Mensajes Nuevos y No hay nuevos mensajes en la columna derecha muesta a los usuarios que estan registrados cuando hay nuevos mensajes desde la ultima vez que entraron al foro.
- El botón Marcar como leído permite a los usuarios registrados marcar todos los mensajes del foro como 'leídos'.
El Índice de Mensajes
Like the board index, the message index interface is quite straightforward when reduced to its essential components:

- Some forums show the navigation tree at the top in a space-saving horizontal mode.
- The page numbers link to further pages of the board, and may be accompanied by Go Up and Go Down buttons linking to the top and bottom of the current page.
- The Mark as Read button enables registered members to mark all posts in this board as 'read'.
- The Notify button enables registered members to subscribe to email notification of replies to topics in this board.
- The New Topic and New Poll buttons are for starting new topics and polls, as described in the posting help.
- The Subject, Started by, Replies, Views and Last post links enable you to sort the columns by these parameters (with Last post also toggling between descending and ascending order as indicated by the little arrow).
- The topic icons in the leftmost column are explained by the key below.
- The post icons in the next column are sometimes used to draw attention to the mood or purpose of the topic.
- The topic subject links to the start of the topic, with extra links for subsequent pages and new buttons to take registered members straight to their first unread post of the topic.
- Where the topic has been started or last replied to by a registered member, their names link to their respective profiles.
- The Jump to menu provides a convenient quick method of navigating the forum.
The Topic
Sometimes referred to as threads, topics are where you find the actual messages:

- Some forums may also be configured with previous and next topic links.
- The page numbers link to further pages of the topic, and may be accompanied by Go Up and Go Down buttons linking to the top and bottom of the current page.
- The Reply button enables you to reply to the topic.
- The Notify button enables registered members to subscribe to email notification of replies to the topic.
- The Mark Unread button enables registered members to mark the topic as 'unread', which means that it will still be listed as new and can be effectively 'saved for later'. Note that this button changes to Add Poll in the bottom button set for users with permission to add polls to existing topics.
- The Send Topic button enables registered members to send a link to the topic by email.
- The Print button creates a simplified, printer-friendly rendering of the page.
- The author name links to the author's profile
- The author details in the lefthand column may be accompanied by further personal information.
- The topic subject links back to the start of the topic.
- The Quote button enables you to quote the post.
- Further Modify and Delete options are normally provided to enable registered members to edit their own posts.
- Report to moderator enables you to report abusive or wrongly-placed posts to the forum staff.
- Logged indicates that the IP of the author has been logged. The actual IP is only available to board administrators
- The Jump to menu provides a convenient quick method of navigating the forum.
